ELLA AND BILIARY ATRESIA
Though most children need a transplant by the age of ten, Ella is a particularly lucky girl. Ella underwent the Kasai Procedure at the hands of Dr. Victor Garcia at Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1983. The procedure was meant to sustain Ella until she could receive a liver transplant, however Ella was able to maintain good health until she was 24. This type of success is not just rare, it is near inconceivable.
Unfortunately, on December 4, 2007, Ella awoke with yellow skin and eyes and rushed to the hospital. Her bile ducts had become clogged and her blood contained too much bilirubin, causing her to become jaundice, as well as causing severe exhaustion, fatigue, and puritis or extreme, uncontrollable itching.
Welcome to ellasliver.com. This site was created by friends and family of Ella Watson to celebrate her as our an amazing sister, friend and extraordinarily gifted artist and to support her as she battles a serious, and life-threatening liver disease.
